When looking up the definition of Friend it should say "See Shelby Jean Gilcrease. " Shelbs is that friend who stands by you no matter what predicament you might get yourself into.
I met Shelby when she arrived at Camp LeJeune and was billeted in Upper Starboard and assigned to the area next to mine. There were two Marines to an area until the powers that be one day redesigned the squadbay so that we were four to an area. That put Shelbs and her best friend Carol, my bunkie Evelyn and me together. What a combo. There was 'Trouble' written all over this grouping. Although Shelbs wasn't a Comm girl she ended up with all the Comm guys hanging at her house in Tarawa Terrace. We had some great times in J'ville and after all was said and done we ended up at opposite ends of the country. But through the years we have kept in touch.
Today Shelbs is wife to Bill and mother of 2. She has unlimited energy, keeps her house in perfect order and no one goes away from her table hungry. She would drive the ten hours to my house if she thought I needed her. We now try to play Pinochle on line a few times a week and talk everyday through email. Hopefully we can get together at least once a year. Shelby Jean Gilcrease - - - - - - - - - - - -my friend.
