When I was a child, Memorial Day meant riding in the fire truck next to my dad. It meant picnics in the cemetery where I would go with Grandma and Grandpa to decorate the graves of loved ones. May 30th was my parents anniversary; it meant celebration. It meant that in a few more weeks the water in the lake would be almost warm enough to swim in. It meant summer was almost here and school would be over for another year. It meant many things to a young girl in a small town in upstate NY. Today it means my heart and soul cry for those who served and didn't come back; for those who served and have never been the same again; for those who made the sacrifice in whatever war, whatever conflict, whatever action and never asked for anything in return. For the Veteran every day is Memorial Day. |

Some Gave All By: Billy Ray Cyrus I knew a man, called him Sandy Cane. Few folks even knew his name. But a hero, yes was he. Left a boy, came back a man. Still many just don't understand about the reasons we are free. I can't forget the look in his eyes or the tears he cried, as he said these words to me. All gave some and some gave all. Some stood through for the red, white and blue, and some had to fall. And if you ever think of me, think of all your liberties, and recall, some gave all. Now, Sandy Cane is no longer here. But his words are oh so clear as they echo throughout our land. and all his friends who gave us all, who stood the ground and took the fall to help their fellow man. Love your country and live with pride and don't forget those who died. America, can't you see All gave some and some gave all. Some stood through for the red, white and blue, and some had to fall. And if you ever think of me, think of all your liberties, and recall, some gave all. |
